Application Process:
Students who are interested in taking part in Ignite and are eligible should complete
the Ignite Program Application by May 23rd, 2018. Qualified applicants will be contacted
by admissions to complete the program application. Once an application is completed,
qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview with campus staff
in order to be further considered for admission into the program. After each interview
has been completed, Ignite staff members will select up to 60 students to be accepted
into the Ignite program. Information about the Ignite program, housing, financial
aid, and fee payment will be emailed to you as a confirmation of your reservation
in the program.
Eligibility Requirements:
1. Be a first-year incoming student (first-time in college student).
2. Be available to participate in the entire Ignite program from June 20th-July
20th.
3. Understand you cannot work or have other outside commitments (i.e., vacations
or family events, etc.,) during the program’s timeframe (June 20th-July 20th).
4. Receive an invitation from the Office of Admissions to apply to the Ignite
program
5. Complete the Ignite application and interview
6. Stay on campus in the Oaks residence hall during the entire Ignite program
(including weekends).
7. Participate in English 1101 and XIDS 2002 (First Year Seminar) during the
Fall semester, and English 1102 during Spring semester with the Ignite cohort.
Dates of the Program:
Classes will begin on Tuesday, June 26th and continue through exams on July 20th.
Ignite Move-in will take place on Wednesday, June 20th. Freshman Orientation for Ignite
students will take place on June 21st-22nd (Freshman 6).
Ignite Move-In:
Move-In will be held on Wednesday, June 20th at the Oaks residence hall. On June
20th, students will be able to retrieve their student ID cards, parking passes, and
summer class schedule. June 21st-22nd (Freshman Orientation) students will get information
about UWG and campus resources. During June 23rd-25th (Mandatory “Wolfing 101”) students
will learn about program expectations, pick up their textbooks at the Bookstore, and
will have the opportunity to speak with staff members from Financial Aid, Housing
and Residence Life, the Bursar, and other campus departments about what to expect
during Ignite.
Orientation:
Orientation is a requirement for all new students at the University of West Georgia.
You will receive more information about Orientation after all Ignite acceptance offers
have been confirmed. Students in the Ignite program must attend Freshman 6 Orientation,
June 21st-22nd. There is an additional fee for students and guests attending the orientation
session.
Financial Aid:
In order to be eligible for receiving summer financial aid, you must complete the
2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
. For Fall 2018 financial aid, you must also complete the 2018-2019 FAFSA.
Academic Courses:
Students who are accepted into the Ignite program will take two academic courses,
Media and the Arts (XIDS 2100) and Introduction to Sociology (SOCI 1101). By taking
these courses, students earn six hours of academic credit over the summer that will
count toward graduation.
All Ignite students will be required to take XIDS 2002, a first-year seminar course,
as well as English Composition I in the Fall and English Composition II in the Spring.
These courses will be automatically added to the student’s schedule by New Students
Programs staff.
Housing:
Students who are accepted into the Ignite program will be required to live on campus
in the Oaks Residence Hall. Living on campus provides many benefits to students, including
the ability to meet and engage with other students and have quicker access to university
resources and services.
Once students are accepted into the Ignite program they will sign a Fall and Summer
housing contract.
