Dear Students and Families,
On behalf of the Department of Housing and Residence Life at the University of West
Georgia, we welcome you to your home away from home. By joining our residence hall
community, you have unlocked a door that will offer you a world of exciting new experiences,
academic and personal support, and meaningful connections with others. The residence
hall community at UWG is unlike any that you will experience again in your life.
We wish each student to play an active role in developing a community that embraces
scholarship, diversity, personal growth, and respect of self, others, and the environment.
UWG receives students, families, and guests from all over the world, with different
backgrounds, personal circumstances, and experiences. We know that these differences
help us cultivate a stronger community where all students can feel like they truly
belong.
We are dedicated to our residents and strive to meet their needs through comfortable
housing, academic support, and opportunities that challenge our residents to succeed.
We understand the challenges that the transition from high school to college can create.
The UWG Housing and Residence Life staff is prepared to offer transitional support
while also challenging our residents to grow and learn to be positive and contributing
citizens.
We offer academic support services such as HARC (Housing Academic Resource Center) and staff support through our Resident Assistants, our 24/7 student service desk
ResSTAR, and through Graduate Assistants. We have found that students who live on campus can have higher GPAs and are more likely to return for their second year of college. Additionally, on-campus students demonstrate higher graduation rates and benefit from the positive aspects of living in a community during their first
college year.
The experience of living on campus is a life-long development opportunity which we
are privileged to support at UWG. I would encourage you to take advantage of the time
that you have on campus. To this day, I still keep in contact with some of my best
friends who I met 20 years ago on my floor. Get involved, meet fellow students in
your hall, play an active role in what you want out of your time with us.
We are excited for you to Live West. We wish you all the best in your collegiate pursuits
and look forward to welcoming you home! Go West! Go Wolves!
Sincerely,
Stephen Whitlock
