Short description of the grant and what we are doing? The University of West Georgia and the Department of Sport Management, Wellness, and Physical Education has been awarded a grant through the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Office to participate in the College Adopt A School Program. Through this grant, faculty at UWG would like to adopt Central High School to implement the Sources of Strength program (https://sourcesofstrength.org/). The Sources of Strength program is a strength-based, holistic wellness program implemented by adult mentors (UWG students) who train peer leaders (high school students) to spread Hope, Help, and Strength messaging to positively change school and/or community cultures around help seeking behavior, codes of silence, and perceptions of adult support. The goal of this program is also to raise awareness and prevention regarding opioid use.
