Alumni Testimonials

Here's what graduates are saying:

"I had an excellent experience in the UWG undergraduate program. It was a rigorous, challenging program which also offered the chance to participate in research. It laid a foundation that has helped me succeed both academically and professionally."

"Loved it. It was such a great community and close knit group."

"Invaluable opportunities presented themselves to me through the department of chemistry. I had the opportunity to research important biological systems with Dr. Farooq Khan and Dr. Swamy-Mruthinti and to work with state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation."

"Amazing experience with wonderful professors who take time to get to know their students and help them excel. All of my needs were met and exceeded, from formal teaching and labwork to mentoring and career counseling."

"My experience at West Georgia was wonderful. I was able to start working in Dr. Hansen's lab as a freshman and this research experience helped me discover that working in research is what I wanted to do as a career. All of the faculty at West Georgia really care about their students and want them to succeed. Thw coursework, while challenging, was always well taught and the faculty were always willing to help you with any problems you might have. With their guidance, I attended 2 summer research experiences and was accepted to many top graduate programs. I don't think I would have had the opportunities at other larger institutions like those that I had at West Georgia."

The Chemistry Department at UWG was more than an academic group; it was a family.  The students and professors always got along well and helped each other.  I always felt very comfortable, and more importantly, I felt cared for by the faculty and staff.  I truly miss my UWG family.

Allison Key, MD

At UWG I experienced understanding and compassion from the faculty in the chemistry department.  I am so grateful for the encouragement I received because it helped me to keep going when at times I wanted to give up as a student.

Corrie Purser

UWG Graduate 2012

I loved the classes and the research. My professors are like family.

Joanna Denton
Physical Chemistry Grad Student
UWG Graduate 2014

The professors are all like characters from a goofy sitcom, but I wouldn't be where I am today without each of them. I got a lot of opportunities to lead workshops, mix chemicals in a lab, and meet lifelong friends within the 2nd floor of the TLC, and I would not trade my 4 years there for anywhere else.

Cody Pasko
Graduate Assistant at MSU
UWG Graduate 2013

The intimacy of the department and the commitment the professors have to their discipline and to student success are absolutely what sets the UWG Chemistry Department above the rest. The students get many opportunities to get involved and make a difference in the department, and the family this creates is amazing.

The professors in the chemistry department were always very helpful. We have small class sizes that provide a much better learning environment. The undergraduate research opportunity surpasses that of far larger universities.

I love that all of the professors know me on a personal level. I'm not just another name on the roster. Knowing the professors on that level makes it easier to get help when needed and the smaller class sizes helps in making sure that all of the students are on the right track.
